Ararat Rural City

With its magnificent gold-rush era architecture and spectacular scenery, Ararat is the ideal base from which to explore the region’s many natural attractions. Step through the gateway to the famous Grampians Pyrenees wine region to enjoy a wealth of fresh regional produce and wines.

Ararat and its neighbouring townships provide a diverse range of cultural and historical attractions. Take a glimpse into the lives of the criminally insane at Ararat’s J-Ward Gaol, or step back in time at the Langi Morgala museum. Ararat lays claim to being the only Australian city to have been founded by the Chinese, and this fascinating past is beautifully documented at the interactive Gum San Chinese Cultural Heritage Centre.

Aside from hosting a range of high calibre travelling exhibitions, the Ararat Regional Art Gallery is home to one of the country’s most unique textile collections.

The Ararat region hosts a colourful calendar of festivals and events, ensuring there is always something to see and do.
